Posh were beaten 2-1 by Championship side Derby County at St George's Park on Wednesday evening, in what was Ferguson's side's sixth pre-season friendly.

The new campaign is set to start with a Carabao Cup clash against Cheltenham Town at the Weston Homes Stadium on September 5, and the Posh boss couldn't be more pleased with how the preparations are going ahead of the big kick-off.

"Going into the last couple of weeks, we are set up perfectly," said Ferguson.

"Touch wood we have no injuries, we have managed to get some players in, which is good, and we will wait and see what happens.

"In the next two friendly games all of the players are going to have 90 minutes.

"We go to Colchester which has got a great playing surface so that will be a good game, and then the final one is Coventry."

The Sky Bet League One fixtures are announced at 9am on Friday morning, and the Posh boss is keeping his fingers crossed that the opener is going to be at the Weston Homes Stadium, teeing up what would be a perfect first week of the campaign.

"We now know the draws for the cups, which is good, and obviously we have a home draw against Cheltenham (in the Carabao Cup) and then we start off the EFL Trophy at home as well," he said.

"So that's two home games, and we wait and see until Friday if we can get a third one, so it is all taking shape."

Posh have enjoyed an excellent week of training at St George's Park, and although Ferguson is very happy with how things have gone, he has admitted the players may have to be treated with kid gloves until the weekend.

"I am delighted with the players and how they have applied themselves, but I didn't expect anything different from this lot," he said.

"But I think I am going to have to be careful with the players for the next couple of days, because I don't to overload them with too much work.

"We have been putting a lot of shift in lately, and the players have been working really hard."
