Virtually all of his first-team squad played 90 minutes for the first time in almost six months as they recorded 3-1 and 2-0 wins at Colchester tonight (August 25). The squads played out two 90 minute matches at the Jobserve Community Stadium.

Dan Butler (2) and Siriki Dembele scored in the first game with Ricky-Jade Jones netting twice in the second match.

“I was delighted with the attitude of both of our teams,” Ferguson said.

“The players needed that 90 minutes as it’s been so long since they played a full game and they played well against a good side.

“Some of the football we played was excellent and we created plenty of chances. The finishing was good, especially from young Ricky whose second goal was outstanding.

“You could see the improvement in the things we’ve been working on and we are right where I’d hoped to be at this stage of the summer.

“And touch wood we have no injuries. Dan Butler came back tonight and it looked like the break had done him good. He was up and down the pitch and arrived in the area at just the right time to score his goals.

“We got 90 minutes into Reece Brown which was bonus and another 65 minutes into Ethan Hamilton who looked very good. Ryan Broom played 90 minutes and looked sharp.

“We have a really tough test in our stadium on Saturday, but we are on the right track.”
