Posh have won all five of their League One matches this month and now face home games against rock-bottom Burton Albion tonight (October 27, 7pm kick-off) and struggling Shrewsbury Town on Saturday (October 31).

A win tonight would see Posh go top if current leaders Lincoln City fail to win at Crewe.

“It’s a very important couple of games for us,” Posh manager Darren Ferguson stated. “We’ve had a great months so far and we’re fresh off the back of two huge away wins at Wigan and Hull. But it’s now vital we keep our standards up and win these two home matches. This is not the time to take our foot off the gas.

“Burton are in a false position in my opinion. They have some good players. They have some experienced players which is vital when you are struggling, they are well organised and they have good delivery from set pieces. They have also tightened up defensively in the last couple of matches.

“They will probably have a couple of key players missing tonight, but our mentality must stay the same while we search for the improvements we know we must make. I cannot criticise the way the players have attacked this season, but I am also confident there is more quality to come from us.

“You won’t reach maximum fluency in every game, but we can do better than we have shown so far.”

Posh will make a late decision on whether or not to return Sammie Szmodics to the starting line-up after his recovery from a hamstring niggle. Defender Niall Mason and striker Mo Eisa are also pushing for a rare start.

Former Posh player Michael Bostwick is a Burton injury doubt tonight. Experienced defender John Brayford, a scorer against Posh last season, is also likely to miss out.
