A £2.5 million cap on wages at League One clubs is due to be discussed at the EFL clubs meeting today (July 1).

Posh director of football Barry Fry said: “We are okay with the idea of a salary cap as it doesn’t include the wages of players under 21 and we have 10 of those.

“We could certainly work with the £2.5 million figure.”

Salary caps are being considered as an antidote to the financial crisis likely to unfold quickly because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Clubs have started cutting costs with 120 players released from League One clubs so far this summer.

Posh have released one of their highest earners, Marcus Maddison.
