Second-placed Posh are eight points clear of the third-placed Wearsiders who also have five games left.

Sunderland can only reach 86 points, but fourth-placed Lincoln City, who won 1-0 at Bristol Rovers today, can get to 87 points.

Posh already have 79 points after their own 3-1 home win over Northampton last night when Sammie Szmodics scored twice. Posh have much better goal difference than Lincoln.

It was almost a perfect day for Posh as leaders Hull City trailled 1-0 at home to Fleetwood Town at half-time, but recovered to win 2-1. Ex-Posh forward Kyle Vassell scored for Fleetwood.

Hull are three points clear of Posh having played a game more, but with a superior goal difference.

Posh host Gillingham on Tuesday (April 20) when Hull entertain Sunderland and Lincoln travel to Burton Albion.

Posh loanee Ryan Broom scored a last-gasp equaliser for Burton at home to Plymouth today.
