Oxford United admit they were ‘battered’ by Peterborough United

And Oxford manager Karl Robinson was so concerned by his side’s display in a 4-0 mauling he’s hauling them in for a Sunday morning debrief.

Ivan Toney’s double and goals from Siriki Dembele and Josh Knight secured the latest handsome Posh win. It was Oxford’s biggest defeat since the opening day of last season and Posh even played more than a quarter of the game with 10 men following a red card for Nathan Thompson.

Eastwood told the Oxford Mail: “They could have had three or four more. I think we played a very good team and I think we were really poor.

“It probably shows with their striker (Ivan Toney). I think he’s been linked with the Championship and he looked light years ahead of us at the back, bullying the defence and causing a problem.

“We couldn’t get near him or a couple of their better players and paid the price.

“We got battered to be honest. In the second half when they had 10 men we still got battered.

“It’s the truth, there’s no hiding place.”

Robinson watched the match from the director’s box as he was serving a one-match ban from the technical area after picking up four yellow cards.

He didn’t like what he saw and laid into his players after the game.

“We switched off in key areas that we told them they were good at,” Robinson said. “They let you have possession and hit you on the break.

“We were weak in a lot of our tackles and pulled out of one or two things. We looked a bit off it in a number of different areas.

“It’s the first time I’ve really had to lose it with this team and they know exactly where I stand.

“That’s not what is expected and we’ll go through the goals tomorrow morning.”

Oxford have slipped down to 10th. They are four points outside the play-off places, and eight points behind third-placed Posh with three games in hand.
