Former Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney is back on top of the Championship scoring charts after bagging a hat-trick in a 7-2 demolition of woeful Wycombe Wanderers yesterday (January 30).

Toney broke a run of seven games without a goal to make it 19 second tier goals for the campaign. His old Posh teammate Josh Knight was in rock-bottom Wycombe’s side.

Goalkeeper Joe Day, so impressive against his former Posh club last week, was at fault for the winning goal as Rochdale won a big game at the bottom of League One, 2-1 at Bristol Rovers.

Ex-Posh boss Steve Evans did his old club a favour as Gillingham snatched a last-gasp 2-2 draw at promotion-chasing Sunderland. Evans had a run-in with one Sunderland player during the game and remarked afterwards: ‘He’s not the first player to point out I don’t have a 28 inch waist.’

Plymouth’s George Cooper faces a lengthy lay-off after undrgoing knee surgery.

In League Two Callum Cooke grabbed the winning goal as in-form Bradford City pipped Barrow 2-1, Matt Stevens claimed his first goal for Stevenage, a 95th-minute finish in a big basement battle at Grimsby (30 seconds after Grimsby had equalised). Tom Nichols’ lovely backheel created Crawley’s consolation goal in a 3-1 defeat at leaders Cambridge United and Lloyd Isgrove was credited with an assist as Bolton beat Leyton Orient 2-0. Danny Lloyd warmed up for the visit of his old Posh team to Tranmere on Tuesday with an asssit in a 1-0 win at Morecambe.

Liam Shephard looked to receive a very harsh red card as Forest Green drew the Gloucestershire derby 0-0 with Cheltenham.

Simon Rusk’s career as Stockport County manager got off to a decent start as they romped to a 4-1 success at Woking and Tyrone Barnett was on the mark as Eastleigh won 2-1 at Boreham Wood. Ricky Miller came on as a substitute as Aldershot went down 2-0 at Bromley.

In transfer news former Posh winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing was being linked with a job at Championship side Derby. Mendez-Laing has been without a club since his release form Cardiff City earlier this season for disciplinary reasons.
