Midfielder is positive about Peterborough United climbing out of trouble, but will he see the season out at London Road?

Midfield ace Archie Collins is confident Peterborough United will climb away from relegation danger in League One.

But whether or not he remains at the club until the end of the season is another matter. Collins is out of contract at the end of the current campaign and has rejected the offer of a new deal so Posh could opt to cash in on one of their most valuable assets in January rather than let him leave for nothing in the summer.

That conundrum is not troubling the 26 year-old though. He will continue to give his all while he remains at a club he joined from Exeter City in June 2023.

Collins can expect to start the League One game against Stockport County at the Weston Homes Stadium on Thursday (8pm kick off). He has developed a fine central midfield partnership with summer signing Ben Woods.

Posh were denied the chance to make it four wins in four games under new boss Luke Williams as the scheduled League One game at Mansfield Town last Saturday was postponed because of international call-ups.

"As long as I am here I will give my all, whether that is until January or until next summer,“ Collins told BBC Radio Cambs. “It’s somewhat out of my control, but I made my decision and now it’s up to the club to make theirs. That’s football. I had a big decision to make and to be honest it was a weight off my shoulders when I made it.

"I’m happy with my own form and I’m positive we will get out of trouble. When we are at our best we can give anyone a good battle, but sometimes our biggest problem is ourselves. We just need to turn one win into two and then three and we will soon climb the table.

"I have mixed feelings about the break we’ve had. It’s been good to have more time on the training pitch with the new manager to learn more about him and his style. He has lots of good ideas about all aspects of the game. He’s very detailed about things.

"But it’s also been a little annoying not to keep playing because of the results we’d been getting. Everyone appears to be getting up to full fitness now and I’ve really enjoyed playing with Ben. He’s a really good player as he's shown in the last couple of games.”

Collins was crocked in the early stages of this fixture which took place on Good Friday last season. He was carried off and didn’t appear again all season.

County midfielder Ollie Norwood was the man to cause the damage with a strong challenge which didn’t even yield a free kick. Norwood has now picked up an injury that could keep him out for a while. He had an emergency operation earlier this month after a blood clot was discovered on his leg.
