The loan move was completed in time for the 26 year-old to make his debut for the Tigers in tomorrow’s Championship game at home to promotion-chasing Brentford. That match is live on Sky Sports (February 1, 12.30pm).

Maddison said today: “I’m delighted to be here. I only got the call at half ten last night, so the deal has been done very quickly.

“It’s been an eventful 17 or so hours but everything has come together quite nicely. I’m happy to have joined such a big club and I’m just excited to get going now.”

As reported by the Peterborough Telegraph yesterday Maddison is a straight replacement for winger Kamil Grosicki who is due to join West Brom today. Hull are managed by former Posh boss Grant McCann.

Hull have paid a substantial loan fee for Maddison who is expected to make the move permanent when he is a free agent at the end of the season.

Maddison made 249 appearances for Posh and scored 62 goals after signing from non-league Gateshead in August, 2014.

EVANS BIDS FOR BENNETT

Posh have also reportedly turned down bids from League One rivals Gillingham for centre-back Rhys Bennett. Gills boss Steve Evans signed Bennett for Posh.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony said: “We’ve had multiple approaches for Rhys, but we want to keep him until the end of the season as valuable member of squad.”

IVAN TONEY LATEST

Posh expect to hold on to top scorer Ivan Toney despite interest from nine Championship clubs. Bristol City and Brentford are known to be among them, but it’s thought unlikely anyone will pay the £12 million package and then loan the player straight back to Posh which is what MacAnthony is demanding.

Toney is due to travel with the Posh squad to Ipswich today ahead of tomorrow’s League One match at Portman Road.

Football League clubs can sign new players until 11pm tonight.

OUT ON LOAN

Posh intend to send younger players out on loan. National League clubs can still sign players next week.

ANY INCOMINGS?

Posh boss Darren Ferguson is content to have already brought Jack Taylor, Reece Brown and Sammie Szmodics to London Road in January. No other arrivals are expected.
