Peterborough United host play-off chasing Middlesbrough in the Championship this afternoon (April 2, 3pm).

Posh will be without the services of captain Oliver Norburn and goalkeeper Steven Benda. Ronnie Edwards is also a doubt after suffering with Covid this week.

They could welcome back Ricky-Jade Jones though to face a Middlesbrough side whose charge up the table in recent weeks has stalled slightly with only two wins in their lest five. One of the two defeats came away at Barnsley.

LIVE: Posh vs Middlesbrough

Key Events

  • 3pm kick-off
  • Benda out with broken finger, Norburn with a knee injury
  • Edwards contracted Covid during the international duty
  • Jones available again, Clarke-Harris and Taylor also fit
  • Posh can only move as high as 22nd
  • Boro are two points off the play offs, with two games in hand

Close!

It’s close again for Posh, corner comes in, JCH gets up and the backpost, heads it at goal blocked, he then gets it again shoots with his left this time and the keeper has to make a great save. Posh can’t out the ball in after some pinball, frustrating.

There are chances if Posh can get men up because they are pushing forward in numbers. JCH just plays a wonderful dink to put Szmodics in on goal. He looks intimidated by the defender and the keeper though and tries some half-hearted flick that comes to nothing.

Put into a good area and a Boro defender misses his header but no Posh player gambled.

Lucky deflection gives Posh a corner from nothing.

The problem for Posh is they are getting overun in midfield and when they do pick up the ball, Fuchs often comes away with it and has absolutely no options and it’s not his fault he loses it.

Balogan in behind Fernandez, drives a ball across the face, too much power for any of his men though. This is poor now, Posh just sitting there and lettign themsleves being carved open.

Boro have to score. Ball sent towards the head of Connolly on the right edge of teh box. It’s a terrible weak header from Kent, Connolly gets it back to Balogan who shoots, well blocked by Knight in fornt of an empty net. Tavernier then has a follow up also blocked. Posh hanging on.

First booking for Kent. Dives into a 50-50 with Howson on the left.

Howson puts a free-kick into the box. Kent heads out and there is Tavernier on the edge of the box. He has all the time he wants and curls it into the corner. Poor marking.
