Grant has had a lot of success, at Doncaster and Hull, he beat us consistently with both clubs!

It was a pretty quick conversation. We looked at playing style, length of contract, who was the most likely person to work with the players we have and who can get them to a place where they can do way better than they have this year.

We needed somebody to bring out the best in everyone.

I feel I'm a completely different person from last time in terms of how I prepare myself, how I coach, how I deal with situations that haven't gone too well and I feel I’ve calmed down a lot. I’ve grown, learnt, developed and worked with many people that have helped me with that.

It’s one game at a time, that’s it. That was the message to the players this morning. Everyone will have written us of sure sure but let’s see.

The first one is Hull on Saturday and I’m looking no further than than. Let’s see if we can go and get three points from that.

Our philosophy (Darren Ferguson) and style of play are quite similar in terms of how we see the game and I think the players have huge potential.

It’s a huge opportunity for myself to be here and I’m looking forward to it and making sure we improve all aspects of our football.

I know the squad very well. I actually said to them this morning, I tried to sign 7 or 8 of you in the summer.

A lot of them have come through the academy, which is pleasing and I know the group and the staff very well and it’s great to see that many have stayed even since I was a player, so it was a lovely transition.

I’m really looking forward to getting stuck into the challenge.

I’ve been out of work for a few weeks, Peterborough wasn’t necessary on my mind because the job Darren did here was phenomenal but when the opportunity cam along, it was a no-brainer.

He’s even got two sons in our academy. His first job here many years ago was with the under 15s. It is key for us to have a link to our youth academy and a pathway for our goal as having three players a year coming through into the first team

Introductory remarks from Mr Thompson.

“We did not want to do a hard stop and go in a completely different direction. We are really excited with the foundations we have here and are super excited that Grant is here to continue all of that work.

We look towards working with him for a number of years. It is long tern, not interim and we’ve got a real exciting plan for where we want to go.”

In come co-owners Stewart Thompson and Jason Neale with the man himself.
