LIVE: Full-time: Burton Albion 1, Peterborough United 1: Eisa scores his first goal for three months, but Posh can’t hold on for victory and drop out of the top six

Mo Eisa’s first goal for almost three months couldn’t deliver victory for Peterborough United at Burton Albion today (February 29).

All seemed good for Posh when Eisa fired them in front in the 52nd minute, but a poor home side equalised from a corner less than 15 minutes later and there was no further scoring.

The draw and Oxford’s win over Southend knocked Posh out of then top six ahead of a big game at home to Portsmouth next Saturday (March 7) when, thankfully, top scorer Ivan Toney can return.

The first-half was a frustrating affair with Burton sitting deep and Posh failing to make anything of their dominance of possession.

Posh found space in good areas, but any aggressive cross or pass was miserably delivered in a dull 45 minutes which featured no clearcut chances.

Jack Taylor did sting the hands of home ‘keeper Kieran O’Hara from 25 yards midway through the half, but otherwise Posh were wasteful in dangerous areas.

Towards the end of the first-half Sammie Szmodics intercepted a sloppy Burton pass, but instead of driving into the area he played weak pass to Mo Eisa which was also intercepted.

Szmodics also saw a shot from 20 yards blocked on the edge of the area after a decent passing move.

Burton matched the Posh formation from the start, but changed to a flat back four 10 minutes before the break.

They created nothing with free-scoring forward Jamie Murphy a spectator for the most part.

The second-half had to improve as a spectacle and it did with Posh striking the first blow seven minutes after the re-start.

And what a great moment for Eisa who celebrated his first goal since December 7.

Siriki Dembele did the groundwork and Eisa’s low left foot shot from just inside the area beat O’Hara and nestled into the corner.

Eisa soon had the ball in the net again, but only after he’d pushed a defender and then from nowhere Burton found an equaliser.

A careless throw-in, in the home half by Frazer Blake-Tracy enabled Burton to switch the play and force Nathan Thompson into conceding a corner from which defender John Brayford headed home.

Burton then enjoyed their best spell of the game with Posh delivering two good defensive blocks before taking control again.

In the 75th minute Eisa charged into the area and drilled a low shot that O’Hara did well to save with his feet, but again Posh failed to make the most of an abundance of possession.

Burton could have won the game in the 90th minute after keeping the ball in the Posh area following a corner, but Scott Fraser shot badly wide.

Posh pressed hard for the winner themselves, but ran out of time.
