LiveLIVE: FULL-TIME: BLACKPOOL 3, PETERBOROUGH UNITED 1: Posh well beaten by the seaside
Posh conceded a first minute goal and two more at the start of the second-half to fall 3-1 behind at Blackpool.
Posh are at Blackpool, while their main rivals for a top two spot are without a fixture. Posh are three points behind leaders Hull City.
It’s a tough game though as in-form Pool are pushing hard for a play-off place and they outplayed Posh when winning 2-1 at London Road in December.

- A win at Bloomfield Road and Posh would catch leaders Hull City.
- Posh need to win by nine goals to go top!
- Blackpool are unbeaten in nine games, winning five of them.
- Blackpool are 10th, but just three points outside the playoff places.
Full-time: Blackpool 3, Posh 1.
Posh were woeful at Bloomfield Road. They conceded a firts minute goal to Jerry Yates, equalised against the run of play through Joe Ward’s excellent volley in the stroke of half-time, but then conceded twice in the opening 15 minutes of the second half. Yates converted a harshly awarded penalty before Ward deflected Luke Garbutt’s shot past his own goalkeeper.
Second half continued
Blackpool in possession. Posh have had a go in the last 20 minutes, but no quality,
6 minutes added.
90: Goalkeeper taking the mick with his timewasting. Madley unconcerned
89: Eisa onto JCH flick terrible effort wide
88: Madley now making Posh move a yard back from a throw0in deep in their own half. What a joker
Bizarrely Posh take it short,. Eisa converts Burrows cross but he’s offside.
85: RJJ wins Posh a corner.
82L Fergie booked for abusing Madley. Madley has been awful.
81 Eisa for Szmodics.
79: Szmodics tripped in area no penalty. Fergie is furious. Madley gave a pen for an arm by the side earlier. Utterly hopeless.
78: JCH does well. Nudged in back wants a penalty.
77: Game drifting to an inevitable conclusion. Robson for Embleton
73: RJJ for Dembele who walks off holding his back.
69: Free kick breaks kindly for JCH now power in his shot.
67: Burrows for Butler & Mason for Hamilton. Not Reed surprisingly.
65: Pool letting Posh have a lot of the ball now. Ward’s crosses keep finding the goalkeeper.
And I thought Posh would cause problmes from set pieces tonight. They’ve instead conceded from two. Posh didn’t bother to send two players out to guard a short corner even though Luke Garbutt is known to have a great left foot.
58: 3-1. Garbutt’s strike catches a Posh head and flies into the corner.
57: Pool pass through Posh far too easily. Corner .
55 Posh make an interception. Ward dithers and eventually Thompson crosses to goalkeeper.
Hamilton’s arms by his side according to ifollowers. Certainly didn’t look deliberate.
51 Pym makes a hash of the corner. Shot comes in. Hamiton blocks with arm. Yates takes and scores.
51: Penalty Pool.
50: Yates free in the area, good block Kent. Corner
50: Thompson gives ball straight to Dougall to start another home attack.
49: JCH heads Ward free kick over. Set pieces could be crucial here.
48: Dembele dragged down. Yellow card Ward. Looked harsh.
We’re off and running. Posh kick the ball straight out of play. Kent’s weak header causes an issue. Hamilton then loses control and hacks off the pitch. Free kick Pool now.
Half-time: Pool 1, Posh 1.
Joe Ward’s terrific volley in first-half injury time cancelled out a first minute strike from Pool’s Jerry Yates.
45 + 2 mins. My goodness a hoof upfield Thorniley loses control. Dembele pounces. Szmodics looked like he’d take too long to cross, but he delivers an inch perfect centre which Ward volleys home superbly. Posh lucky to be level at the break.
45: Posh playing with 10 briefly. 3 mins added.
43: Mason ready to come on for Thompson, but right-back is okay I think.
Blackpool are a small side. Set-pieces ought to be an issue for them.
42; Butler corner is good. Goalie makes a hash of it. Kent cross-shot cleared.
41 Posh have a corner as Ward cross is blocked.
40: I cannot believe what I am watching. Brown fizzes a pass unnecessarily hard at Thompson. Possession lost again.
39: Good tackle Thompson, poor pass. Sums it up really.
38; Pool again reach the edge of the Posh penalty area. Embleton shoots straight at Pym. Posh need the break. Sadly seven minutes still to go.
Posh are now a flat back four. Thompson at right-back.
36: Jeepers JCH loses possession yet again, Kaikai skins Thompson, Cross poor Kent clears.
First half continued
35: Butler loses challenge out wide, Mitchell into area. Poor cross.
33 Kent and Fergie now arguing. ‘Concentrate’ urges Fergie. Posh struggling against the press. They are stopping Thompson breaking forward. Thompson now down injured anyway,
30: Posh are all at sea at the back. Pym rolls to Brown who fires a pass chest high past Thompson.
28: Better from Posh. Butler to Szmodics lay off to Dembele 18 yards out, great block,
26: Fergie raging at ref. He probably couldn;t see it was a fair tackle on JCH
24 Chance Posh. Beevers wins header Szmodics on the turn, well wide. Wants a corner, not getting one,
23: Better from Posh. Szmodics to Hamilton, tripped, no caution which is an error.
Free kick half cleared, Mitchell returns, Pym gathers.
20: Good lord. Kent hesitates, runs back towards goal, loses ball to Kaikai, pulls him back. Clear yellow.
19: Free kick Posh chance to get the ball in the box. Butler over it. Takes it short to Ward who muffs the cross and it’s cleared.
18: Posh are getting overrun in midfield. Too easy again. Kaikai slips as he’s about to shoot.
Fergie the other side of the pitch to me, but I can hear him yelling ‘forward’.
16: Brown trips Kaikai yellow card. What a dreadful start.
15 Too easy to reach the edge of the Posh area again. Yates tricks Kent, slices shot wide.
14 thankfully free kick from Mitchell is woeful. Mind you the way this game is going another chance will be along in a minute
13 Oh my. Long ball catches Posh out, Butler adjudged to have fouled Kaikai, Right on the edge of the area. Posh really wobbling already
12. Posh have started poorly never mind the goal. Very sluggish so far, Need to stay in touch.
Free kick poor. Cleared for corner. Pool keeper Maxwell is berating the officials for not sending Pym off, Should be a yellow I would have thought for deliberate handball. Certainly not a goalscoring chance.
8 mins Pym catches the ball outside the area. Ref gives it, Wide shouldnt be a red card. No card
Posh are playing with wing-backs. Pool are 4-2-3-1. They don’t let many goals in which is a concern now
You know on Saturday Posh let Dale have so many free shots at goal from 20 yards and survived them all. Not tonight as Jerry Yates finds the corner with a fine strike.
1-0 Pool 1st minute
Blackpool kick off and away we go. Eerie silence. The knee is taken by all bar JCH and Dembele
Teams are out. Posh in white shirts, black shorts, white socks. Pool in traditional tangerine shirts
15 minutes to kick off. Posh are back in the dressing room apart from Butler and Burrows.
Pitch looks good,
It’s cold and windy. A night for men to stand up and be counted. Huge game for both sides. A win and Blackpool hit the top six for the first time. A win for Posh and they get level on points with leaders Hull City.
A correction to the Blackpool team news. On loan Arsenal centre-back Dan Ballard is absent tonight as he’s on international duty with Northern Ireland Under 21s. Ballard scored on Saturday, Jordan Thorniley has replaced him.
Ex-Premier League referee Bobby Madley is the man in the middle tonight. He hasn’t refereed Posh since a 1-0 League One win over Wolves at London Road in 2013.
