LIVE BLOG: Burton vs Posh

Last updated: Saturday, 06 March, 2021, 17:03

  • 2-0 Burton FT
  • Two goals in three second half minutes downs Posh
  • Pym’s handling poor for both goals
  • JCH withdrawn after an hour
  • First defeat in 8 league games for Posh
  • Posh drop to second on goal difference

First defeat in 8 league games for Posh. Burrows scores with the last kick but Posh the architects of their own downfall, two poor goals which Pym will question himself for. Posh never looked like scoring until right at the end, poor build-up play followed by excellent defensive organisation from Burton.

First league goal for Burrows, Posh recycle the corner out wide to Burrows, he dribbles the ball down the right on the pitch, cuts inside and shoots into the far corner. Far too late though.

Posh hit back with seconds to go

Hamilton fires a shot low to Garratt’s right, he gets down and can only parry, corner. Great effort.

Posh free-kick middle of the goal 35 yards out, foul by Mancienne on Hamilton.

That is Smith’s last act and on comes Owen Gallacher, like for like switch out wide.

Smith finds himself free on the right of the box from a long ball after Posh commit men forward. Puts in a delicious cross but no one matches his intent to get forward and Thompson can easily collect right in front of goal. Smith is very frustrated.

Posh just come and come but very little cutting edge when they do, always too many bodies in the way or the lack of a killer pass.

Low cross from Ward to the near post, Eisa isn’t alive to the idea, straight to Garratt.

Fergie’s and Ward’s idea of a long throw differs, barely reaches the box and Parker heads away.

Posh getting a bit more frantic now and that isn’t helping to improve the passing play, which has been lacking through out. Long throw chance though.

Chance for both Brown and Szmodics to shoot as Posh pass it around the edge of the Posh, both pause too long though and the chance is gone.

Taylor very nearly makes it three. He cuts in from the right and unleashes a snapshot before Beevers has a chance to press, it goes just passed the top right corner.

Long ball from Kent and Eisa switches on early and gets away from the defence, he’s in behind and one-on-one. The ball bounces and the keeper races off his line to meet him, a delicate touch is needed but he gets way too much contact and the ball ends on the roof of the net. That was a real chance.
