They are three points clear at the top of the table, they have scored the most goals and they boast the best goal difference.
The good news for Posh and Ferguson is that they would still be sitting atop League One alongside Charlton Athletic if points per game suddenly became relevant again!
Some interesting stats (info from soccerstats.com & @ReportPosh) from the League One season so far...

9.
GOALSCORERS GALORE: Dan Butler's brilliant goal (pictured) at Bristol Rovers earlier this month means 14 different players have scored for Posh in all competitions this season compared to 13 in all of last season. Nine different Posh players have scored in League One matches which is the second best total of the likely League One promotion contenders. Doncaster have seen 12 different goalscorers! CLEAN SHEETS: Posh goalkeeper Christy Pym (pictured) is a little off the pace in his bid to retain the League One Golden Glove prize for the most clean sheets. Pym has kept four clean sheets in 11 matches, but Charlton’s number one Ben Amos has kept blanks in seven of his 10 League One appearances. Amos played one game on loan for Posh from Manchester United in 2009. Pym kept 15 League One clean sheets in 36 matches last season. Photo: Midlands

The popular expected goals (xG) formula which records the goalscoring chances both created and conceded, and the quality of those chances, places Sunderland at the top of League One with Posh in second. Posh have been held back in recent weeks by a worsening defensive record (in xG terms). Biggest over-achievers xG wise are Ipswich Town. Photo: Midlands
