Here’s how an unforgettable season unfolded at the Weston Homes Stadium from the first whistle to the last...
5.
JANUARY: Posh returned to action with a creditable 1-1 draw at Lincoln despite playing the last quarter of the game with 10 men. They then strung together some fine results before losing at Shrewsbury (0-2) in the final January game. Expected promotion rivals Ipswich (1-0) and Charlton (2-1) were among the victims. The game at Ipswich was won without a single Posh shot on target. An own goal (pictured) won the day at Portman Road. Posh finished January in 4th place: P24 W13 D4 L7 Pts43
6.
FEBRUARY: February was a glorious month for Posh with six wins out of six and a return to the top of the table. Posh scored 15 goals and conceded just three as they gained revenge victories over Crewe (2-0) and Wimbledon (3-0) while completing League One doubles over Ipswich (2-1), Plymouth (3-0, pictured) and Wigan (2-1). Posh came from behind to beat Wigan and Gillingham (3-1) as they opened up a four-point lead over Hull City at the top. 1st: P30 W19 D4 L7 Pts 61
7.
MARCH: March was tough, not helped by an injury to star midfielder Jack Taylor. A decent draw at Oxford (0-0) was followed by a poor defeat at Burton (1-2) and then a loss from a promising position in the big home match with title rivals Hull City (1-3). Referee John Busby sent Ethan Hamilton off in the first half of that match (pictured), although the official was to make up for it big-time later in the season. Posh did scramble a win against Pompey (1-0), but they threw away a 2-0 lead at Rochdale (3-3) before losing again to Blackpool (1-3). Luckily Accrington (7-0) were next up. and Posh finished the month still sitting prettily in 2nd place: P37 W21 D6 L10.

APRIL: A late goal from Jonson Clarke-Harris gave Posh a rare win at Fleetwood on Good Friday and a 1-1 home draw with Sunderland on Easter Monday maintained a 5-point gap to the chasing pack. Easy wins at Swindon (3-0) and against Cobblers (3-1, inevitably) moved Posh to the cusp of promotion until a shock home defeat at the hands of Gillingham (0-1) set them back. A win at Charlton (1-0) left Posh three points from glory, but they didn’t beat Doncaster (2-2) after leading 2-0 to ensure a nervy finish. They finished the month in second place.
