Has Peterborough United's mystery signing now been identified?
Evan Weir has been identified as the player Peterborough United have agreed to sign when his contract expires at Walsall next month.
The 24 year-old Irish defender was named by highly-regarded national journalist Pete O’Rourke on Monday afternoon.

Weir is a centre-back or left-back who is comfortable as a wing-back. He has made 56 appearances for Walsall since moving from Irish League club Drogheda in January 2024. He was immediately loaned back to his former club before making his Saddlers debut in August, 2024.
Weir made 22 appearances for Walsall in the 2024-25 season, but fell out of favour before their League Two play-off final which was lost to AFC Wimbledon. He made 34 appearances for Walsall last season, but didn’t play after a March 10 defeat at Salford City. He was not injured and was then released at the end of the season.
Former Walsall manager Mat Sadler reckoned Weir had ‘the best left foot in League Two.’ He is also renowned for his ability to deliver accurate set pieces and for being composed in possession.
Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony said on an episode of his ‘Hard Truth’ podcast he had signed a left-sided defender on a pre-contract which is possible for players entering the final stages of an existing deal.
Posh are known to be keen to have a defender pushing Harley Mills for the left-back slot next season.
