Frustrated Peterborough United defender is ready to step up and play for the first team

Peterborough United defender Frazer Blake-Tracy has suffered a frustrating start to the season, but he’s ready to step up and play in the first-team now.

The 25 year-old enjoyed a strong first season as a Football League player in the 2019-20 campaign following a step up from non-league King’s Lynn Town. He played well in the final game of last season, an impressive 2-0 win over Portsmouth at London Road, which was his 17th appearance of the campaign.

But an ill-timed injury just before the first game of the current campaign has led to a season on the League One sidelines so far.

Blake-Tracy made his first league apperance of the season as a half-time substitute in the 2-0 defeat at Crewe last weekend and he’s now ready to stake a claim for a regular slot.

“I had a hamstring issue just before the first game,” Blake-Tracy stated. “And you can’t take chances with muscle injuries so I didn’t play.

“When I was fit again the team were doing so well it was tough for me to get a game. You can’t complain you’re out of the side and the team wins nine out of 10 matches.

“I played in the FA Cup and the Papa John Trophy and came through those games okay. There’s always pressure playing for this club as they expect to win every game, but I felt I did fine.

“It’s important to stay fit and healthy and be ready to play when you’re out of the side. I hope to stay in and around the squad now. I do offer something a bit different as I am left-footed.

“I don’t like to just defend though. I like to make a difference in a game by getting forward. If I’m playing as a centre-back I like to step out and even get past the wing-back if I can.

“We let Crewe run overun a bit which shouldn’t happen.

“You have to work harder and run further than the opposition.”

If Posh play with wing-backs against Blackpool on Saturday (November 21) there is a good chance Blake-Tracy would replace Niall Mason in the starting line-up.
