Former Peterborough United player receives a BEM in the New Year Honours List

Former Peterborough United player Curtis Woodhouse has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to football and boxing in the New Year Honours List.

The BEM is awarded to community volunteers.

Woodhouse, who is now 40, signed for Posh in October 2003 on a free transfer from Birmingham City.

He played 72 times and scored 11 goals before leaving London Road to join Hull City for a transfer fee of £25k in May 2005. Woodhouse was a key player in a successful Posh battle against relegation from the third tier in the 2003-04 campaign.

He had made his Football League debut for Sheffield United in 1997 at the age of 17 before joining Birmingham in a £1 million transfer. He played for Birmingham in the Premier League.

After Posh Woodhouse went on to play for Grimsby, Rushden and Mansfield and made just short of 400 senior appearances in total.

After retiring from professional football Woodhouse turned to boxing and won a commonwealth and British title. He now runs a Boxing Academy in Driffield, while also managing part-timers Gainsborough Trinity FC.
