Former Peterborough United ace JCH on course for another career promotion and 'superb' Manny Fernandez scores his first Scottish Premiership goal

Former Peterborough United star Jonson Clarke-Harris is on course for another career promotion.

The man who won two League One Golden Boot awards during his impressive stay at London Road moved into Turkish football in the summer with second tier side Pendikspor.

And the Istanbul-based side are currently top of the table after 14 matches, helped by seven goals from Clarke-Harris, four of them from the penalty spot.

It marks a welcome return to form for a 31 year-old who scored 87 goals in 149 appearances for Posh. He bagged 33 goals in the Posh promotion season of 2020-21 (31 in League One) and 29 after Posh had returned to League One in the 2022-23 season (26 in League One) – both times he was the top scorer in the third tier.

Clarke-Harris was not a regular starter for Posh the following season, but still contributed 13 goals to a play-off campaign before he was allowed to leave for League One rivals Rotherham United. He endured a tough season with ‘The Millers’ scoring just seven times and he was then released before signing a two-year deal with Pendikspor.

Rotherham team-mate Mallik Wilks joined him in Istanbul. He has seven assists in his 13 appearances for his latest club.

Former Posh centre-back Emmanuel Fernandez scored his first Scottish Premiership goal for Rangers in a 2-1 over bottom club Livingston yesterday. The 23 year-old £3.5 million signing from Posh headed home early in the game before surviving a big handball penalty shout which would have given the visitors to Ibrox Park the chance to take a 2-1 lead.

The performance of Fernandez was described as ‘superb’ by one Scottish paper. It was just his second start in the Premiership. He had scored on his debut in a League Cup win against Alloa in August. Injuries to others enabled him to start against Livingston in front of almost 50,000 fans at Ibrox.

Fernandez told Rangers TV after the game: “It is tough when people are doing well in my position, or when people are trusted in my position, so you have to wait your turn, but the main thing is just training well and hoping your opportunity will come.

“The new coaches have come in, and they have been great with me as they have given me a lot of information. If I go and talk to them it has been very transparent, and I couldn’t be more grateful. I got my opportunity today and we got a good result.”

Fernandez scored seven goals in 61 Posh appearances.

Other Posh old boys in the news on Saturday were Joe Ward who contributed an assist for the fourth Championship game in a row for Derby County, but then conceded a late penalty as Watford hit back from 2-0 down to win 3-2.

Kabongo Tshimanga scored for the second League Two game in a row for Crawley in a 1-1 home draw with Accrington Stanley and Posh Academy graduate Harry Anderson scored his seventh goal of the season in a 3-1 win for Colchester at Notts County.
