Fergie gearing up for a 'weird' Christmas as Posh sit it out on Boxing Day

Christmas without football is not something that Posh boss Darren Ferguson is used to.

Throughout his career as first a player for the likes of Manchester United and Wolves, and then as a manager for various clubs, you can count on the fingers of one hand the years that Christmas Day didn’t include preparing for a Boxing Day match somewhere.

But this year that is not going to be the case, with Posh without a game until January 2 due to the Covid outbreak at the club last week.

Ferguson won’t be taking his eye completely off the boil of course.

He will still be watching games as he works towards preparing Posh for that new year showdown with Docaster Rovers, but he will be doing that from the comfort of his own home.

And that means he is going to have more time to enjoy a family Christmas, and he is looking forward to that.

As well as watching a bit of horse racing with a family connection.

“As management we are not in self-isolation ourselves, so technically we could go out and watch games, but we won’t, we will watch them on iFollow,” said the Posh boss.

“We will watch Doncaster at the weekend (they host Accrington Stanley on Boxing Day).

“It will be weird not having football on Boxing Day because it is probably the only time when I have been in a job when I haven’t had games. You expect to play over Christmas.

“However, it will be good to spend it with my family.

“So I will watch Doncaster in action, and then my dad’s horse is running as well, so hopefully that will make it a good day!”
