Ex-Peterborough United centre-back Rhys Bennett scored on his full debut for Carlisle United yesterday and helped keep a clean sheet in a 3-0 League Two win at Crawley.

Bennett signed a short-term contract with the Cumbrians six months after leaving London Road.

Luke James was also on target in League Two as his goal helped Barrow draw 2-2 with Mark Cooper’s Forest Green Rovers, but goalkeeper James McKeown let in four goals before half-time in a 5-0 reverse at Tranmere. Tranmere unveiled Keith Hill as their new manager after the game.

Grant McCann’s Hull City overtook Posh at the top of League One after winning 3-1 at Russell Martin’s MK Dons, but Charlton had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Steve Evans’ Gillingham after Conor Washington saw a first-half penalty saved and Marcus Maddison struck the crossbar from 30 yards. It was Maddison’s first start for Charlton.

Kane Ferdinand struck with a superb volley as Woking thumped Barnet 4-1 in the National League. Gary Johnson’s Torquay are now five points clear at the top after a 2-1 win at Halifax.
