Key Events

  • Posh sign National League striker.
  • Back-up striker moves to Championship

Fleetwood firepower

Posh could face an all-new Fleetwood Town attack at Highbury on Fabruary 14 if reports are to be believed.

It’s understood Posh striker Jack Marriott is in the North West finalising his move to the Cod Army and big Charlton Athletic centre-forward Jayden Stockley is also apparently on his way to the club.

There have been zero completed transfers in League One so far today (Monday).

Demebele on the move again?

Siriki Dembele could leave Premier League Bournemouth before the end of the January transfer window, accoridng to TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook.

The Cherries signed Dembele from Posh for a seven-figure fee in January, 2022, but he has failed to hold down a first-team place.

The 26 year-old is apparently of interest to French Ligue One side Auxerre as well as a number of Championship clubs.

Tricky winger Dembele has made six appearances in the Premier League this season, all from the substitutes’ bench.

He was linked with a move to Turkish football in August.

Sunderland need a striker

Sunderland striker Ross Stewart has suffered a potentially season-ending injury leaving the Black Cats seeking a new forward.

Posh skipper Jonson Clarke-Harris has been linked with the Wearsiders in the past, but is not expected to be a target of the Championship club now.

Sunderland signed Leeds United striker Joe Geldhart on loan last week.

Marriott to Fleetwood edges closer

Reports are now suggesting Jack Marriott had a medical at Fleetwood over the weekend after the clubs agreed a £250k fee. Watch this space.

Britt Assombalonga is back! Not at Posh sadly, but back at Watford in the Championship. He left Vicarage Road for Posh in the summer of 2013 for over a million quid and scored 33 goals in one outstanding season at London Road before making big money moves to Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough. The now 30-year-old has most recently been in Turkish football. He’s signed a Watford contract until the end of the season.

Edwards linked with Championship club

Posh centre-back Ronnie Edwards has been linked with a move to Championship club Stoke City.

The 19 year-old was apparently watched by the Potters during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Portsmouth.

Stoke reckons they could lose powerful Australian international Harry Souttar before the January transfer window shuts.

Leicester have been linked with a move for Souttar, although Edwards is hardly a ‘like-for-like’ replacement.

Edwards is thought to be under contract at Posh until 202 and it would take a huge bid to prise him away from the club.

Ex-Posh on the move

Former Posh centre-back Rhys Bennett has signed for League Two’s bottom club Rochdale. Bennett had been without a club. since leaving Morecambe last week. He made his Football League debut for Dale in 2012.

Former Posh loan goalkeeper Luke McGee has joined League One promotion contenders Derby County on loan from League One strugglers Forest Green Rovers. Quite the upgrade.

Son of Savage to face Posh?

Posh could face the son of former Welsh international Robbie Savage next weekend.

Manchester United teenager Charlie Savage has moved to Forest Green Rovers on loan. Like his dad Savage junior (19) is a midfielder.

It’s the second Premier League signing made by new Forest Green boss Duncan Ferguson.

Everton youngster Tyler Onyango made his debut in Saturday’s agonising 2-1 defeat at Shrewsbury. The 19 year-old midfielder spent the first half of this season on loan at Burton.

Jack Marriott looks set to leave London Road in the next 48 hours after he was left out of the matchday squad on Saturday.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson had been confident of keeping Marriott, but a bid from a League One rival has been accepted and talks between the player and his potential new employers have started.

The Sun have reported Fleetwood Town are favourites to sign Marriott for £250k, but there has been a suggestion Oxford United might hijack that deal.

Oxford boss Karl Robinson confirmed to the Oxford Mail after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Burton Albion that he is seeking a new striker.
