Flamboyant former Peterborough United star Marcus Maddison has joined lowly League Two side Bolton Wanderers on loan until the end of the season

Maddison has moved to the Trotters from Charlton. The 27 year-old attacking midfielder only joined the Londoners in October, but he hasn’t featured since his attitude was questioned by Addicks boss Lee Bowyer after a 2-0 home defeat by Accrington on January 8.

Maddison is one of the most naturally talented Posh players of the last decade, making 249 appearances and scoring 62 goals, but he hasn’t made the most of his gifts.

Posh lost patience with him midway through last season after he declined to travel to a Christmas game at Rotherham because of illness.

He joined Hull in the Championship on loan, but declined to stay with the Tigers to help their relegation battle once football resumed after the first lockdown.

Maddison was without a club until Charlton stepped in, but he started just four League One games, scoring one goal.

Bolton have not had the expected impact on League Two following their relegation last season. They are currently 19th, nine points adrift of the play-off places.
