Chris Conn-Clarke on target as Peterborough United kick-off pre-season with a win
Peterborough United kicked off their pre-season fixture list with a 2-1 victory over FC Magpies from Gibraltar.
Posh began their Spanish pre-season training camp in La Cala- between Marbella and Malaga- on Monday (July 13) and played their first match on Tuesday against a semi-professional side that finished 7th in the Gibraltar top division last season.
It was 0-0 at the break but Bolu Shofowkoe scored their first goal of pre-season in the second half before the returning Chris Conn-Clarke made it 2-0. Posh conceded with ten minutes to go but were able to claim the victory.
A number of players made their first outings in Posh colours including Harrison Jones, Evan Weir, Owura Edwards and Collin Andeng-Ndi.
Sah Hughes, Tom O’Connor and Rio Adebisi were not involved after suffering with injury issues hanging over from last season.
Posh fielded two different sides in each half with a much younger side in the first half unable to break through before a slightly more experienced line-up in the second managed to get Posh on the scoresheet.
Shofowoke headed home from close-range following a corner kick to put Posh in the lead after 53 minutes e before Conn-Clarke swept home from close-range after finding space in the box with 11 minute to play.
There were other chances with Harry Leonard heading over summer signing Evan Weir curling a free-kick just wide of the target. Conn-Clarke was denied by the keeper while there were some good blocks by defenders.
FC Magpies pulled a goal back within two minute of Conn-Clarke’s effort but could not complete the comeback.
On Friday (July 17), Posh will play Saudi Pro League side Neom SC at the Banus Football Center free of charge for spectators. The game will kick-off at 6pm UK time.
