Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony: “Words can’t describe the pride I’m feeling for our so-called small football team. Every player and every member of staff was majestic today and they will all go down in history. Who needs 35,000 fans when you have 15,000 proper Posh fans willing us on like today? Let’s the good times roll again and stay this time.”

Posh goalscorer Tommy Rowe: “It is like a dream come true to be honest and it has still not really sunk in, it is an amazing feeling. We did well in the first half, but they had a little spell after half-time when they put us under a lot of pressure. But we held out and mygoal really sparked us into life and we didn’t look back.

“Grant (McCann) swung in a great free-kick and I managed to get my head on it and it flew in. It was an important goal and from them on we really dominated them and won comfortably.”

Posh captain and man-of-the-match Grant McCann: “That’s the best goal I’ve scored and lifting the trophy was the best moment of my career.

“Scoring at Wembley was something very special but getting one at Old Trafford in such a massive game is an even better feeling.

“There was a point during the winter when a lot of people were doubting whether or not we had what it takes to go up, but we have worked ever so hard since the gaffer came in and we have been rewarded with promotion.”

“To go up in front of so many brilliant fans and in such a stunning arena was something special.

“The fans took to me from day one and have helped make it such a brilliant few years for me at Peterborough.

“It has been a really special time and any footballer would be proud to have been a part of three promotions and this has to be the most enjoyable.”
