Boss 'immensely proud' after Peterborough Women clinch the National Midlands Division One title in style

It’s been a season of relentless success for Posh who are still unbeaten with two matches to go. They’ve won 18 of their 20 games to dominate a tough division from the get-go.

Poole said: “I’m immensely proud of the players. These leagues are so tough to win. You almost have to be perfect to do it and we have been. To win virtually every game is very hard to do. We;’ve had a target on our backs because we have been so good. We were a big game for the other clubs, but the players coped with that pressure superbly.

"We’ve had recent additions to the squad who have come here get promoted and players who have been here a long time and who love the club. They all deserve to celebrate.

"There’s also a bit of relief because we’ve known we’ve been capable of this for two seasons. We were brilliant for a lot of last season, but just fell short. We knew we had to be even better this season which was a daunting prospect, but we stayed focussed and kept ticking off the wins one by one.

"I can’t remember a game when we weren’t the better team which is a credit to the players as it’s not easy when there is that level of pressure.

"And what a way to seal the title. We delivered what was one of our best performances, particularly in the first half when some of our passages of play were superb and we scored some excellent goals.

"We planned for this for so long, but it only came about because there was a lot of hard work done behind the scenes.”

Centre-back Anna Pitt scored her first goal of the season yesterday, while goalkeeper Neive Corry clinched the division’s ‘Golden Glove’ award after keeping her 13th clean sheet of the campaign.
