The 24 year-old will complete a big-money move to Championship side Brentford tomorrow (September 1) just days after adding the EFL League One player of the year prize to his Golden Boot, the award for topping the scoring charts in the division. Toney scored 24 League One goals last season, nine more than any other player.

Toney also won the ‘Forever Posh’ supporters player-of-the-year award.

Toney said: “At the start of the season, my target was to win the Golden Boot and I managed to achieve that and I was really pleased how it went overall on a personal level, but it was just disappointing we couldn’t get promoted. I felt good from the first game and I managed to carry that through the season, but you can’t win any awards without the efforts of your team-mates.

“My family is a big part of my success, they come to the games, they support me from afar and I am sure that will be the case for years to come. They have been pushing me, keeping me grounded, so it is not just keeping the awards for myself, it is for me and my family.”

Toney nominated his lob in the 2-0 win over Lincoln at the Weston Homes Stadium last October as his favoutrite goal.

Posh co-owner Darragh MacAnthony said: “I wish Ivan Toney and his family nothing but the best in his move to

Brentford. He’s been superb for us for two years and will go to the top. Happy to play a small part in another young player reigniting their career with us.”
