Posh had their moments as they started and finished strongly at the Stadium of Light, but they couldn’t find a finish against a team who have conceded just one goal, a penalty, against League One clubs this season.

RYAN BROOM: A tough defensive game as Sunderland moved the ball out wide well and provided regular overlaps, but he stuck to his task with good commitment. A couple of good crosses. Substituted 20 minutes from time. 6

DAN BUTLER: Delivered some excellent defending at the back post. Didn't manage to get forward enough after one early cross that created half a chance for Szmodics. 6.5

JACK TAYLOR: Looked to be harshly treated when conceding the match-winning penalty. And that was a shame as he'd played very well in the centre of the pitch 8.

LOUIS REED: A bright performance from the midfielder. Struck the bar with a cracking free kick and almost equalised with another shot late on. Always prompting wisely with his passing in midfield. 7.5 Photo: Midlands
