ALAN SWANN’S Peterborough United player ratings: The Posh man-of-the-match was impossible to select as most players were very good in a deserved victory over Rotherham United

Goals from Ivan Toney and Sammie Szmodics won the day, but there was also a fine defensive display against a team who had won their five previous League One matches and started the day at the top of the table.

Ratings key: 10-Perfect, 9-Outstanding, 8-Very good, 7-Good, 6-Average, 5-Poor, 4-Shocking.

Christy Pym: The goalkeeper is enjoying a decent run of form. His approach to dangerous Rotherham set-pieces was excellent, he made one great save in the second-half and his distribution was far superior to his opposite number 8

Nathan Thompson: His vast experience is beginning to show. Defended very well for the most part. Reads the game like a veteran 8

Mark Beever: The skipper is so much more comfortable in a three-man central defensive system. He was first to a lot of balls here and Rotherham’s Ladapo/Smith forward partnership was largely anonymous 8

Frankie Kent: Very positive with his defensive work as he attacked the ball constantly and his work on the deck was stylish and effective 8

Joe Ward: His best game of the season for me considering the strength of the opposition. Worked hard up and down the pitch from the right wing-back position. His set-piece delivery didn’t lead to much, but the ball was often put into dangerous areas 8

Dan Butler: Well this was a giant step up on recent efforts. The pass for the second Posh goal was exceptional, but he also kept dangerous right-winger Ogbene quiet. Excellent 8

Reece Brown: This midfielder is growing on me. He has quick feet and good vision. He was sacrificed in the second-half for Josh Knight’s greater physical presence, but he played well 7

Jack Taylor: Oustanding work-rate from the £500k January signing. He showed he can do the dirty work as well supply quality moments 7

Sammie Szmodics: Marcus who? The on-loan attacking player plays with terrific energy and desire and his finish for the second goal was high quality 8

Ivan Toney: His level is consistently excellent. His second-minute finish was made to look easier than it was and his general hold-up play and link-up play with Dembele and Szmodics offers plenty of promise for the rest of the season 8

Siriki Dembele: He’s added a new dimension to the Posh attacking play in the last two games. His pace has unsettled two strong defences and he is generally using the ball well. Substituted towards the end after tiring 8

Substitutes

Josh Knight: (for Brown, 68 mins) Looked fit and strong on his return to the side. 7
