A Peterborough United legend might not be the only top professional footballer to emerge from Grant McCann’s household.

McCann quickly established himself as a Posh star after moving to the club from Scunthorpe United in the summer of 2010. At thet end of that season he had skippered Posh to promotion from League One after leading a talented team from the front. The Northern Irishman scored in both legs of a semi-final win over MK Dons and again in the final victory over Huddersfield Town at Old Trafford.

McCann played 186 times for Posh and scored 35 goals before going on to manage the club in two spells.

The 44 year-old has never moved away from the area where he has raised three football-mad sons with wife Kelly.

Oldest boy Bayley was a member of the Posh Academy and once made the substitutes’ bench for the first team. The 18 year-old midfielder is now at Barnsley, another of his father’s old clubs, and has just signed a new contract.

Youngest son Frankie (11) is thriving at the Posh Academy and has also just signed a new deal. Frankie is a versatile player who plays mainly as a right-back, but can also play as a holding midfielder.

And middle son Jesse is a forward with Deeping United Under 14s in the Peterborough & District Junior Alliance League. Jesse has scored 100 goals in the last three seasons for his club including a goal-a-game in Division One this season.

“100 goals in 3 seasons for Jesse Boy,” he said. “So proud of you mate and all at Deeping Utd.”

Grant also used X to say: "Delighted for Bayley signing a new contract at Barnsley. Keep working hard mate,” and “Delighted that little Frankie Boy has put pen to paper on a new deal at Peterborough Utd.”
