A bold Peterborough United prediction from an AI supercomputer

An AI supercomputer has made a bold prediction about Peterborough United’s chances of success in League One in the 2026-27 season.

We’ve been accustomed to Posh being written off by computers and bookies in the last couple of seasons, but a study by Tipman Tips has bucked that trend.

Tipman Tips fed information into an AI supercomputer about each League One team and instructed it to simulate the season to predict how the League One table will look at the season’s end.

To the surprise of no-one Leicester City are tipped to walk away with the league title with second-placed Stockport County nine points behind.

But, and here’s the fun bit, Wycombe, Luton, Peterborough, and Barnsley are tipped to make the play offs

At the opposite end of the table, Oxford United, Wigan, Sheffield Wednesday, and Leyton Orient have been tipped for relegated which makes me think this supercomputer is not to be fully trusted.

A spokesman for Tipman Tips said: “What’s particularly shocking about this prediction is that Oxford, Wigan and Sheffield Wednesday are expected to be relegated down to League One. All of course will be hoping to prove the doubters wrong, but it does show that this could be a very interesting season”.

The accompany words for the Posh prediction were ‘traditionally strong academy/recruitment model,’ which will be music to Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony’s ears.

Tipman Tips link Supercomputer's predicted finishing order: 1 Leicester, 2 Stockport, 3 Wycombe, 4, Luton, 5 Posh, 6 Barnsley, 7 Huddersfield, 8 Reading, 9 Plymouth, 10 Mansfield, 11 Bradford, 12 Blackpool, 13 Doncaster, 14 Wimbledon, 15 Burton, 16 Stevenage, 17 MK Dons, 18 Cambridge, 19 Bromley, 20 Notts County, 21 Oxford, 22 Wigan, 23 Sheff Wed, 24 Leyton Orient.
