The former England shot-stopper made 100 Posh appearances between 1982-1984, before going on to win three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, one League Cup and a European Cup Winners Cup with Arsenal.
Nowadays Ivan Toney may well take that accolade thanks to his Premier League exploits which nearly won him a spot in England’s 2022 World Cup squad.
There are of course plenty more former Posh players who have graced top-flight football, and quite a few you may not remember.

13. David Seaman (1982-1984, 109 gamess)
It was soon obvious Seaman was far too good for Division Four so a move was always inevitable. He climbed the ladder and saw his career reach its peak with Arsenal. He won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, one League Cup and a European Cup Winners Cup. Seaman also won 75 England caps and played at two World Cups Photo: Ben Radford

14. Micky Gynn (1978-1983, 181 games)
One of the finest homegrown players to play for Posh, this dynamic little midfielder helped Coventry City lift the FA Cup in 1987. Gynn played 181 times for Posh before his £60k move to Coventry. He was seriously undervalued by Posh, but not by the Sky Blues for whom he went on to make just shy of 300 appearance. Photo: Submitted

15. Colin Clarke (1981-84, 94 games)
He went to the 1986 World Cup Finals in Mexico with Northern Ireland, scoring against Spain in a 2-1 defeat. Clarke’s form in Mexico won him a move to top-flight Southampton for whom he scored 20 goals in his first full season. Photo: PT

16. John Wile (1967-71 & 1983-86, 236 games)
Wile’s excellence as a centre-back for Posh is often overshadowed by his less successful stint as a player-boss over a decade later. He enjoyed two successive ever-present seasons at London Road before joining First Division West Brom for a Posh record fee of £35k. Photo: PT
