The former England shot-stopper made 100 Posh appearances between 1982-1984, before going on to win three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, one League Cup and a European Cup Winners Cup with Arsenal.
Nowadays Ivan Toney may well take that accolade thanks to his Premier League exploits which nearly won him a spot in England’s 2022 World Cup squad.

Toney, who started 77 times for Posh in two seasons after a £300k move from Newcastle United. After leaving Posh in a reported £10 million move to Championship side Brentford, he has gone on to shine in the Premier League and won his first England caps in September 2022. Photo: Alex Pantling

6. Russell Martin (2008-10, 66 games)
Martin was outstanding as Posh won promotion to the Championship in 2011, but left for Norwich the following season. The Canaries were a League One side at the time, but Martin was with them on their rapid journey to the Premier League and played over 300 times for the club before moving on to Rangers. 7. Ryan Bennett (2009-12, 100 gaenes)
This smooth central defender was picked up by Posh for a reported £500k from Grimsby aged just 19. Bennett was a star in the Posh promotion campaign of 2010-11. A move was predictable and Bennett joined Norwich and helped the Canaries into the Premier League and he did the same at Wolves. He played particularly well in the top flight for the latter. 8. Adam Drury (1996-2001, 176 games)
Drury helped Posh win promotion from the old Division Three through the play-offs in the 1999-2000 season and some eye-catching displays the following season caught the attention of some bigger clubs. Norwich City took him for a fee of £500k and he was soon skippering the side to promotion to the Premier League. Drury spent 11 years at Carrow Road and made over 350 appearances for the club.
