Peterborough United have received as much criticism as credit despite a super start to the season

A squad assembled virtually from scratch in the summer has surpassed most expectations by rising to second in the table with over a quarter of the season gone.

Posh have won eight and lost just two of 13 games, they have scored 30 goals (four more than any other League One team) and they’ve just set a club record of seven unbeaten away games from the start of a season, scoring an average of three goals per game while winning six of them, one more than they managed in all of last season.

Striker Matt Godden’s brace at Scunthorpe last weekend took him back to the top of the League One scoring charts with nine goals.

“Our problem is a couple of dodgy home performances is colouring people’s opinion of our season overall,” Evans said.

“Of course we need to get better at home, but to be second in the league after 13 games, to be scoring so many goals and to be playing such entertaining football is a fantastic achievement from a set of players who by all rights should still be getting used to each other.

“For a team in such good form and one that is breaking records we don’t half appear to be copping some criticism alongside the credit we receive which makes little sense to me.

“I guess that’s way of the world with social media these days, but we will keep trying to prove our critics wrong. It’s extra motivation for us.”

Posh are top of the League One away form table with 19 points, but they are just 13th in the home form table with eight points from six matches.
