Matty Walker scored twice, once from the penalty spot, to give Stones a 2-0 lead, but higher-level Stamford fought back with goals from Theo Hudson and Aaron Cashmore. Cashmore was one of only two Stamford players who turned out for the cub last season, alongside veteran Jon Challinor.
