Peterborough Sports boss far from pleased despite FA Cup progress

Peterborough Sports boss Graham Drury was for from satisfied despite his side dispatching Ipswich Wanderers 4-0 in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Finn O’Boyle scored his first for the club and was joined on the scoresheet by Leon Lobjoit (2) and Harvey Williams as Sports progressed to the second qualifying round against step five opposition.

Despite this, Drury was left disappointed with the lack of clinical finishing from his side. A trait he firmly believes will prove costly it repeated at home to Rushall back in Southern League Premier Division Central action on Saturday (September 12, 3pm).

He said: There are a lot of positives- the goals, clean sheet, getting through to the next round- but my negatives are the fact that we have to be a lot more clinical.

“In that first half, we should have made sure that game was well safe and put to bed. We had chances for six, seven or eight and we’ve not been clinical enough, which is a little frustrating.

“Then in the second half, the tempo, movement and intensity drops and we can’t do that because against Rushall on Saturday we won’t get as many chances.

“We want to be up there and challenging and when we get the opportunities, we have to score.

“You want perfection, you’re never going to get it but you’ve got to keep the standards high. I actualyl had a go at them at half time and I was expecting a better reaction than I got and I’m not pleased.

“I said, for 15 minutes we have to be dominant and put this game to bed and we can gout our subs on. We didn’t do that and Jacks had had to make a couple of saves. We shouldn’t have been in that position.”

Sports must travel to step four AFC Rushden and Diamonds in the next round and are three wins away from the first round proper.

Stamford’s hopes ended at the first attempt with a 1-0 home defeat against Mickleover, who play in the Northern League Division One Midlands, a tier below them. They have lost seven consecutive games to start the season.
