Super Sports are chasing glory for the second successive season after making a sparkling rise into the Southern League Premier Division Central.

Dean’s third-placed men are only two points off the top ahead of a Cambridgeshire derby clash with relegation scrappers St Ives Town at The Bee Arena this Saturday (3pm).

They go into battle in fine form following a run of four consecutive league wins which continued with a 3-0 verdict at big-spending Nuneaton last Saturday thanks to a Josh Moreman brace and a late Cameron Johnson clincher.

And with Posh out of action until February 29, Dean would love to see their supporters get their football fix down at Lincoln Road instead.

“I’m asking the people of Peterborough to come down and get behind us,” said Dean. “I really do believe my players deserve a bit more support than they get on a regular basis.

“I’ll guarantee anyone who comes along that they will see players and a manager from their community giving absolutely everything they can. There isn’t anyone more proud to be Peterborough born and bred than myself.

“If 10,000 men came into Peterborough to try to take it over, I’d be first in line defending it with my life because I love my city.

“We’ve built a special little club doing well at a serious level of football. We’re the leading scorers in the top eight levels of English football and we have created a fantastic environment that our players are thriving in.

“Posh don’t have a game so it would be great to see their fans at our place instead. I watch Posh every opportunity I get and I’d love for their supporters to do that in reverse and see what we’re all about.

“I’ve seen a few Posh fans on social media turn their nose up towards us, but I don’t get that. We don’t think we’re ever going to be a rival to their club. We are just a group of local boys going places and enjoying every minute of the ride.

“It will be a real test for us on Saturday too in a derby against a St Ives team fighting for the lives. They need the points just as much as we do and we’ve got to be spot-on.

“We deservedly won at their place earlier in the season but the scoreline flattered us. It was never a 3-0 game.”

Sports then hit the road for Hednesford on Tuesday with Dean urging his players to overcome their midweek curse. Their last two Tuesday outings have resulted in a heavy league defeat at the hands of Hitchin and a semi-final exit from a county cup against lower-level Daventry.

“It’s a massive challenge for us to go to Hednesford and get a result,” added Dean.

“The last couple of midweek games have probably been our worst displays of the season.”
