Peterborough Sports boss admits his under-strength side just wasn't good enough

Peterborough Sports boss Mark Ducket accepts his side just weren’t good enough as they slipped to a 5-2 defeat to Leiston at PIMS Park on Tuesday night.

It was a first defeat in 11 games for the city side who have slipped out of the Southern Premier Division Central play-off places as a result ahead of a trip to third from bottom Leamington on Saturday. Leamington came down with Sports from National League North last season.

"From minute 10 to minute 94 it wasn’t good enough if I’m brutally honest,” Ducket said. “We’ve been on a great run, but the honeymoon is over. We didn’t reach the standards in running and in terms of being courageous. This is an unforgiving league and Leiston deserved their win.

"In a way I’m pleased because now I get to see the character in the side. When you are winning it’s about momentum, but losing makes demands of character and I know we will show it in another tough game at Leamington.”

Sports were undermined last night by injuries and suspensions, with players forced to perform in unfamiliar positions. They gave a debut to new goalkeeper Dan Wilks last night and expect to make another signing before the weekend.

"We are down to the bare bones,” Ducket added. “Harry Vince was sensational at right back, but that’s not his position, while Joe Burgess was centre-back, but that’s not his position either.”
