A note was sent out to member clubs on Friday (February 26) asking for clubs to vote through the proposal. Two previous votes arranged in January and February produced a stalemate (55-45% in favour of null and void, then 55-45% in favour of completing a league season) so the league have now made a recommendation they hope will be ratified by the membership.

The League are proposing an optional cup competition with restrictions on eligible players. They believe players would need two weeks to regain match fitness so no matches would be played before April 10.

It would be a competition played on Saturdays with a final scheduled for the weekend of July 3/4. A format would be determineed when the number of entrants is known.

Points-per-game was employed last season to settle promotions and relegations. That won’t happen this season as so few games have been played.

Some clubs are not happy with the proposal. Stanground Sports are pushing hard for promotion from Division Three and club secretary Pete Simpson said: “It’s ridiculous and I will be disappointed if the clubs vote for it. The FA say playing each team once constitutes a fair season and there is still to time to do that. We can play until the end of May after all.

“We just need to get cracking as soon as we can. Players don’t need to train for two weeks to get ready at our level.”

“The cups won’t mean anything.”

Deadline for voting on the League recommendation is Saturday, March 6 (9am). It’s unclear what happens next if the vote goes against the league recommendation.
