Peterborough League clubs invited to vote on how to end the 2020-21 season

Peterborough & District Football League bosses have invited member clubs to vote on the preferred way to end the 2020-21 season.

They have two options.

1) Teams to play each other once and then use points per game to conclude the season.

This would involve results from matches where teams have already played twice being expunged and replaced by a one-off game.

Promotions and relegations would be allowed under this proposal, although promotion from the Premier Division to step six football is not guaranteed.

2) The season is declared null and void and there is no promotion or relegation between divisions.

Clubs would then be invited to take part in Peterborough Senior, Challenge, Junior and Minor Cups, initially in groups to ensure 3-4 matches before the knockout stage.

Both proposals are dependent on grassroots football resuming on March 1 and the PDFL have taken into account the need for fitness work for players before matches so they would not start until March 20.

Pitch availability (the start of the cricket season and council-owned facilities are an issue) and poor weather have been factored into the plans. Any game postponed on a Saturday would be re-staged the following midweek.

The PDFL believe 7/8 weeks would be needed to complete the season for either proposal.

Netherton United, one of those heavily involved in the Premier Division title race, will support the proposal to play each other once according to manager Jon Harrison.
