Yaxley were the only local cup winners last night (September 18).

The Cuckoos predictably beat lower level Huntingdon Town 3-0 at In2itive Park in the opening round of the Hunts Senior Cup.

In-form Matt Sparrow scored twice after a long-range lob from Dan Cotton had opened the scoring. All the goals arrived in the first-half.

Peterborough Northern Star lost their Northants Hillier Cup tie 2-0 at home to AFC Rushden & Diamonds. Star had won their four previous competitive matches, but found higher level Diamonds too strong at the Branch Bros Stadium.

Stamford AFC, Spalding United and Wisbech Town all bowed out of the Evo Stik Northern League Cup last night after losing home matches.

Spalding were thwarted first by an 89th minute Belper equaliser and then 4-2 in a penalty shootout, while Stamford AFc were well beaten 3-0 by Mickleover Sports. Ryan Harnwell scored what turned out to be a consolation goal for Wisbech Town in a 3-1 loss to AFC Mansfield.

Johnny Lockie scored the Spalding goal in a 1-1 90-minute draw.
