No more title talk from the pre-season favourites as Peterborough League gets back under way

The city side, most pundits’ tip for the 2020-21 title before a ball had been kicked, suffered a mini-wobble before the latest lockdown.

They were well beaten by potential title rivals Peterborough North End Sports and were then held to a draw by newly-promoted Eye United who played for an hour with 10 men.

Netherton take on another side new to the top-flight, Cardea, in their first game back post-lockdown at the Grange on Saturday (December 5, 2pm).

“There will be no title talk from us,” Harrison said. “We just need to concentrate on going on a good run.

“The whole Covid world affected us badly. From players not being available, to not being able to step foot in a changing room, something that’s massive for us especially when we were virtually starting again with new players.

“To be honest it’s the same for everyone, but it’s just not as enjoyable as it should be.

“The lads have been working hard on their fitness this lockdown so hopefully that will show when we re-start.

“I don’t know a lot about Cardea, but they’ve had a couple of decent results and they have a striker (Tom Klinkovics) near the top of the scoring charts so he must be decent.”

Netherton are currently second in the Premier Division table, three points behind surprise leaders Stilton United.

But there are challengers queueing up behind the top two, most notably Moulton Harrox who have won all six of their top-flight matches this season.

Stilton host the match of the day on Saturday as they take on Peterborough North End Sports (2pm).

There are just the two Premier Division games this weekend.
