The new-look Peterborough Northern Star side fought well but lost to a first-half goal to Potton United at the Branch Bros Stadium, while Deeping Rangers lost a goal just before the break at Newark FC and went on to suffer a 4-0 reverse in the first competitive game under the management of former Posh pair Lee Clarke and Daniel French.

Spalding United took the lead in the fifth minute through Scott Floyd’s spectacular strike in their home tie against Barton Town, but conceded three goals in the final 10 minutes of the game to bow out 3-1.

Blackstones (home to Boston Town), Holbeach United (home to Kirby Muxloe) and Pinchbeck United (home to St Neots) are all in extra preliminary round action tonight (September 2, 7.45pm).
