And Peterborough man Scott Stojanovic believes hard work and passion will pave the way for success for his brand new venture – a new football club for the town.

“I want to grow my own team,” he says. “I know we can smash through the Peterborough leagues and turn it semi-pro within a couple of years.”

He may have Fergie’s son, Darren to contend with further down the line if Peterborough Town FC is the success he hopes. Darren, the son of former Manchester United manger legend Sir Alex Ferguson, currently manages League One Peterborough United – The Posh – but Scott is already dreaming of a local derby before a ball has been kicked.

Meet Peterborough Town FC’s founder

At just 21 Scott may be one of the youngest football club owners, but he’s not without experience of the beautiful game, and has been playing since he was in primary school.

“I’m absolutely passionate about football,” says Scott, who’s a winger/centre forward player for Chatteris in neighbouring Cambridgshire. “Waking up on a Saturday morning and knowing there’s a game waiting for you is what I love.”

But now he wants to take that passion to the next level.

“I want it to be my team, my project,” he says. “I’ve always been very competitive and every game has been ‘you go out to win’ for me.”

His first step was to secure a ground and facilities, which he now has at Queen’s Park in Yaxley. And to register the club with the Peterborough District Football League – which is also done.

From the beginning he plans to run this as a semi-professional team. “I’m not looking for the team to stay long in the Peterborough leagues – I want it to go up. That means getting the right players and the right staff for training and coaching.”

“The level of talent will be down to me scouting and picking good players with potential, and down to the coaching staff and hard work,” he says.

Building the team and staff

The next step will be to pull together his dream team. Trails are scheduled to take place in April at the ground at Queen’s Park, Yaxley. And Scott is hoping those with the right passion, skills and dedication will come forward. Scott will confirm precise details with anyone who makes contact.

“Some of the boys will work as well, I know, but from the start we will treat this as a semi-professional team.”

He’s also actively seeking staff for the team – and of course sponsorship, although he says Peterborough Town FC will be self-funded at the start.

Playing, or working for, Peterborough Town FC will mean a more professional approach – this will be more than a weekend kickabout.
