Peterborough United manager Grant McCann reckons his side are a '˜match for anyone in League One' providing they can play with the pace and intensity they showed in last night's drubbing of Millwall.

And who can disagree with him? The demolition job over last year’s play-off side was a statement of intent to the rest of League One.It also moves Posh up to sixth in the table and makes them the top scoring club in the league after just three rounds of games.

McCann said: “Millwall were one of the favorites for the league at the start of the season. They are a good team and they have got a good manager. But I just said to the boys if you play with that intensity, that tempo, then you are more than a match for anybody in this league.

“I thought we were excellent from minute one. Even when we had the kick-off we showed our intent that we wanted to get at them and I was really pleased. To a man I thought we were really superb tonight.

McCann held special praise for striker Paul Taylor, who re-signed for the club this summer from Ipswich Town.

Taylor has also played for Nottingham Forest, Rotherham and Blackburn Rovers.

McCann said: “He was phenomenal. I mean the way he turns with the ball, it’s so quick. I knew that it would cause Byron Webster and Tom Craig problems, although they are really good defenders.

“Quick players like Taylor, Tom Nichols, Gwion Edwards and Marcus Maddison they don’t like.

“In the first half Taylor was unplayable at times, the way he takes the ball down and twists and turns. He’s excellent.”

“He showed great character to get the goal just after missing as well, which was good.

The manager also had plenty of positive words for central midfielder Jermaine Anderson.

He said: “Jermaine looks fantastic at the moment. He looked like that in pre-season, he started rusty, he was a little bit sloppy, he would probably say that himself. But listen the boy is an excellent player. He has got so much energy, so much strength and I think he complimented Fozzy (Chris Forrester) well tonight. The two were superb.

“We needed to match Millwall’s energy. I think we matched it and went beyond. Fozzy and Jermaine got really on top of them.

“Defensively we were excellent. Okay we conceded a sloppy goal at the end, which was disappointing because I wanted a clean sheet because I think Ben Alnwick deserved it. I think the back four deserved it, the way they defended in the first half.

“It’s disappointing to lose that goal but saying that I can’t complain. We have scored five excellent goals and we thoroughly deserved the victory.”
