LATEST NEWS: McCann has no regrets about the loan of hat-trick hero Angol

Peterborough United manager Grant McCann insists he has no regrets over the loan of striker Lee Angol to Lincoln City, despite the striker's debut hat-trick for the National League leaders last night (March 7).

Angol became the first Lincoln player to claim a hat-trick on debut since 1966 in a 4-0 win at Braintree. Posh have allowed the 22 year-old to leave on loan for the rest of the season even though goals have been in short supply in recent weeks.

But McCann, who was in Oxford last night watching Saturday’s League One opponents, said: “I’m delighted for Lee. We’ve sent him on loan to get some confidence back so it was great to see him scoring goals again.

“It’s far better for him and us that he is playing regularly and scoring goals, rather than sitting on our bench.”

It’s understood Posh have received a loan fee in excess of £100,000 from Lincoln.

Oxford were beaten 3-2 at home by League One leaders Sheffield United last night. They remain a point behind Posh in 11th place, but with two games in hand. Posh slipped a place to 10th thanks to Walsall’s 1-0 win over Chesterfield.

McCann added: “Oxford were very good for 45 minutes, but Billy Sharp scored from his first chance as usual and momentum swung Sheffield’s way. Oxford are a good side, but it’s a game we believe we can win.”
