JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Sports Under 15s bring home the Danish bacon
Peterborough Sports Under 15s did the city proud when flying the flag for Peterborough in a big international tournament in Denmark.
They won the Copenhagen Festival of Football , a three-day event which attracted teams from 22 countries. They beat Swedish junior champions IFK Norrkoping 1-0 in the final thanks to a Nasir Nabi goal.
The team are no strangers to success.
Before coming under the Sports banner they were Wasps Under 13s and Under 14s and they won a total of 22 summer tournaments plus the Peterborough Junior Alliance League Division One title in both years.
Earlier this summer the team were invited to play in the Acers’ Nationals tournament, which is a ‘Champion of Champions’ event for all of Great Britain, and they did well to reach the semi-finals after conceding just one goal in nine matches. They missed out on a final berth after losing on the 13th penalty in a shoot-out.
Mark Morling, one of the coaches, said: “To win a big tournament like we did in Denmark really does cap a fanastic couple of years for the lads, who are all based in the Peterborough area
“Myself and Mark Ward, the other coach, are so very proud of each and every boy who has been part of that success.
“And I’d like to say a big thank-you to Mark and Georgia Ward for all their hard work in organising the Denmark trip and making it such a great success”
