FA Trophy action for out-of-form Bourne Town and recent signings strike as Yaxley win United Counties League derby at FC Peterborough
Bourne Town take a welcome break from league action to host higher level Banbury United in the first round of the FA Trophy on Saturday (3pm kick off).
‘The Wakes’ have picked up just one point in their last five Northern Premier Midlands Division games to slip into the relegation zone.
But they do have an FA Trophy win at Alvechurch Town – the team that knocked Spalding United out of the FA Cup on Tuesday night – under their belts this season and Banbury are a weaker Southern Premier Division Central side than Alvechurch.
Banbury won’t be pushovers though as they knocked Peterborough Sports out in the previous FA Trophy round at PIMS Park.
Spalding will seek to bounce back from their failure to reach the first round proper of the FA Cup for the first time in 62 years by winning at Hednesford Town in a National League North fixture. Spalding are ninth, two places and a point behind their hosts.
There are home league games for Wisbech Town, Netherton United and FC Parson Drove tomorrow.
Yaxley came from behind to win 2-1 in a United Counties Premier Division South fixture at FC Peterborough on Wednesday night. The city side led at the break, despite missing a penalty, through an Ollie Desborough goal before debutant new signing James Stainsby equalised and recent signing Antonio Mendy bagged a last-minute winner.
FC Peterborough have lost star striker David Yisah to higher level Rugby Borough. They are at lowly Histon tomorrow when Yaxley travel to mid-table Sileby Rangers.
Peterborough Sports and Stamford AFC return to Southern Premier Division Central action on Tuesday (October 27). Sports host Leiston and Stamford are at Bishop’s Stortford.
