The Football Association confirmed yesterday (Thursday) that seasons for all divisions from Step 3 and below were now over due to the outbreak of coronavirus and that all records from the campaign would be expunged.

It is a decision that has hit clubs in the area hard with Peterborough Sports sitting top of the BetVictor Southern League Premier Central when matches were suspended while Stamford were second in the Northern Premier League South East Division.

And Evans, who cut his teeth in management in the area with the likes of Holbeach and Stamford, has nothing but sympathy for those teams being denied their shot at promotion.

“As a manager who came through non-League, the decision to cancel the season for Steps 3to 7 is unprecedented and unfair,” he said.

“It is my view the decision was taken without due consideration of the work done, money spent, and of course the many sleepless nights.

“Mind you those making the decision never had that!.

“I feel for Jimmy Dean at Peterborough Sports, what a job he's done, and of course everyone at Stamford, where everything is in place for promotion.

“They, sadly, have no option but to go again.”

The ending of the season also had a big effect on the Peterborough League with Netherton United sitting top when things were brought to a halt while Posh Ladies were unbeaten and top of their division while also seeing a county cup final and league cup semi-final cancelled.
